BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour with Anita Rani + Springtime 2023 highlights...

BBC RADIO 4 WOMAN'S HOUR

Hello my dears,

Wow! This month has been so exciting and jam packed so I thought I should make a blog post and share some links and photos to say thank you and also so I don't forget..

We kicked off the month with a special International Women's Day event and the launch of the new 2023 hardback edition of Pessimism is for Lightweights with my Rough Trade Books friends at Foyles flagship store on Charing Cross Road - it was such a joy to see my yellow books in the window and I signed a mountain of books too. Then we ended this big energetic month of March with a beautiful conversation about optimism and books and poetry on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour with the always brilliant Anita Rani. My heart is full today! Thank you!

It's been a roller-coaster of a month, March has been cascading with lots of emotion and feelings, lots of travelling and book signings, visits to bookshops and podcasts and all sorts of adventures, whilst also keeping my new books simmering away and rising at 4am to complete the first draft of a new book to my agent. Deadline beaten. Mission accomplished. Woop! I can tell you about the new Canongate books later, but for now here's some of my March highlights and links and thanks to everyone who has been supporting this adventure and launch this month:

Thank you to Rough Trade East and all other indie bookshops: Choose Bookshops!! Shout out to Viv at Newham Bookshop, Lee at Printed Matter Hastings and Charlie at The Hastings Bookshop, you'll find signed copies of my books there!

Thanks also to everyone who came to the Choose Love Syria and Turkey earthquake fundraiser hosted by Elif Shafak at Kings Place, such a magical and moving and emotional evening to be a small part of.

Thank you to my dear friend Kathryn Williams for inviting me onto her amazing Before The Lights Goes Out podcast. Thank you also to Jumoke Fashola for inviting me onto BBC London to read poetry and chat about my books. Thanks also to the team at Soho Radio and my co-hosts Amah Rose and Matt for another amazing Roaring 20s Radio show, it was so wonderful to feature the brilliant Dark Horses in the March show, LOVE Dark Horses.

Coming up next I'm off on a delightful adventure to France to perform and share both books and poetry at the International Conference 'Consolation in Contemporary British and Post Colonial Literatures' at ENS in Lyon. There will be a reading and also a Q&A and book signing. Venue for this one has changed and it will now be at: MILC, 35 rue Raulin, 69007 Lyon

Then following that, my next London show is April 13th at Book Slam, Hanbury Hall - a beautiful building famous for being a place where Charles Dickens used to do readings. I'm a BIG fan of Book Slam and so happy it's back, I am looking forward to sharing the stage with Diana Evans, Stephen Buoro, Cherise and Marsha Leanne! What a time it has been! What a month! I have been exactly like a Mad March Hare...

Happy Easter! Happy Eggs and Rabbits to you all!

Sharing pictures with so much gratitude, thanks and love,

Xxsg
